The ransomware attack on Baltimore city’s government computers has shut down systems essential for completing home sales, putting a halt to property deals during one of the real estate industry’s busiest time of year.

People buying homes rely on the city to verify that properties are free and clear of liens and to complete the recording of new deeds.  Title companies also use information from the city to calculate outstanding water bills.  Those processes have been disrupted by the hack, according to real estate agents and a bulletin from a title insurance company.
